OVERVIEW

The theme of World Metrology Day 2015 this time was "Measurements and Light." The theme was chosen to align with the International Year of the Light of UNESCO and technologies based on light 2015 (IYl 2015), a global initiative designed to highlight the main light function and optical technologies play in our daily lives and its importance for our future and for sustainable development of the society in which we live.

Metrology plays a central role that allows the application of light-based technologies, and in turn, the light is at the heart of many of the most important new elements of cutting-edge measurement technologies.

The World Metrology Day is an annual celebration based on the signing of representatives from seventeen countries of the Meter Convention on 20 May 1875. The Convention provides the framework for global collaboration in the science of measurement and its industrial, commercial and social applications. The original aim of the Meter Convention - the worldwide uniformity of measurement - remains as important today as it was in 1875.

The project of the World Metrology Day is jointly conducted by the BIPM and OIML, many agencies and institutions around the world join in this celebration enthusiastically. CENAM together with the national metrology institutes around the world lives this celebration through knowledge and awareness, this time by the growing energy demand on our planet in the development of increasingly accurate and reliable measurements.
For the commemoration, CENAM organized the Open Day 2015 (DPA 2015), inviting students, teachers and professionals interested in the issues of measurement, offering guided tours of the CENAM facilities and substantial talks dictated by our metrologists specialists visits which allowed to show scientific developments and technological advances offered by the CENAM through its experts and measurement laboratories.

Our scheduled program was distributed during the day on May 20. The activities were divided into three times morning, noon, and evening, each one with 3 hours long. Activities included an organized environment in small groups due to reduced most laboratory space, attending lectures and visits to sites of interest were the contest of teaching station Industrial Metrology, the library, the museum, the tree Newton, and the institutional video. He also featured an exhibition dedicated by the sponsors of the event and the stand of CENAM.

With regard to laboratory visits, we have the enthusiastic participation of 38 laboratories, 7 specialized lectures and a competition station in Metrology.

We had a presence about 1700 visitors from 35 educational institutions, businesses and the general public. We counted with the participation of the sponsors of the event as well as the stand of CENAM.
