The measurement of environmental conditions is of great importance to calibration laboratories, regardless of the type of calibration being performed. Environmental conditions often affect the measurement process in one way or another.
National laboratories in the SIM region suffer at some point from a lack of such devices that meet specific needs, such as measurement range, stability and other characteristics. Additionally, with the emergence of Digital Transformation concepts, most of the instruments do not have them, some lack wireless communication, and with the emergence of concepts such as digital calibration certificates, or international system of digital units, the lack of support for Digital Transformation in Metrology increases.

The quantities subject to calibration and their measurement intervals are:
- Temperature: from 10 °C to 30 °C
- Relative humidity: from 20 % to 85 % at 20 °C and/or 23 °C
- Pressure: from 600 hPa to 1 100 hPa
